The Bar(n), the bar annex of Park Slope’s Flatbush Farm, is well-named: it’s as big and bare as its titular inspiration, a dim but not unfriendly space carved out of an unlovable building off Flatbush Avenue. The expected Haute Barnyard décor (exposed beams, weathered wood) fits right in with a competent cocktail menu (Garden Snake, Pear Martini, a Mo’ Stormy) and its glasses of red wine served in water tumblers. The food menu, however, is a bit misconceived, consisting of pretentious versions of grilled cheese, salads, and the like. Also, despite being on the fringe of the neighborhood, this place is Park Slope all the way, for better or for worse: don’t be surprised to find a few stroller ladies parked in here to get a mid-day nip.
