Now approaching old age (at least in nightclub years), Flow has reached the inevitable turning point when the stream of swank club kids in full regalia is ebbing and a torrent of less fashionably attired or inspired is, well, flowing in. Past what’s become a largely symbolic velvet rope, a sizeable crowd of fellas in crisp white shirts and sweaty couples (some newly formed) grind under the glow of a few wall-mounted Lite-Brite installations. Those waiting at the bar gaze at the space’s one architectural delight: a monstrous color-changing column of water that breaks up the stark milieu. While the music favors mainstream hits, the crowd enjoys singing along when the DJs drop the volume. Friday and Sunday nights feature mainly hip-hop, reggae and old-school while Saturdays lean towards Top 40 beats.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
