Located inside the McGraw Hill building, this swank bar serves an unwinding after-work crowd. The archaic mod décor—outer-space-looking blue lights, abstract paintings, strangely-shaped stools—gives off an early-nineties bar mitzvah vibe, but the spaciousness and comfy couches can’t be argued with. The libations go down smoothly (rye on the rocks, absinthe, Godiva liqueurs, well-mixed Kahlúa, a superb imported Limoncello); just ignore the fact that that the cocktail menu is inexplicably split between the options “Neoclassic” and “Wanderlust.” For food, the local cheese platter compliments the drinks nicely, but some fancier snacks—yellowtail tuna tartare with wonton crackers, seared skirt steak skewers—are more filling. On weekends, a D.J. disrupts the calm mood.
NoteThe entrance is on 48th St. between Sixth and Seventh Ave.
