A former bowling alley, speakeasy, and cop bar, Freddy’s was bought in 1996 by Frank Yost, a gruff veteran pub owner, under whom the place has launched faux-French rockers Les Sans Culottes (“A crazy, stupid idea,” says singer Bill Carney, “but Freddy’s was so supportive”); hosted dozens of literary events (one involved Frank McCourt, his mother, an egg-salad sandwich, and ’Tis); and has generally served as a neighborhood living room for die-hard regulars.
Live MusicAlmost every night in the Back Room; check website for schedule.
Extra
There are a host of different rotating monthly events at Freddy's—from knit night to spelling bees and karaoke; check the website for details.
