American resourcefulness has been just as dedicated to liquid sustenance as solid, and perhaps noting those distinctions sometimes blur, the young proprietors at Freemans feature on their menu various seasonal cocktails. Indeed, cocktails figure into dinner at this retro American restaurant so debonairly, we’re almost loath to inform you that the snug bar only sits about twelve people. Still, it’s a pleasant enough place to rest one’s elbows, in a room, located at the end of some godforsaken alley, as frivolously antiquated as a Wes Anderson film set, stuffed-and-skewered animals adorn the walls, including, in some demented nod to Proust’s food-triggered memories, a vicious swan, and the cocktail menu is dissected into such dusty categories as Light and Easy, Even and Crisp, and Dark and Complex.
