Profile

If Hell's Kitchen's Westies gang came back from purgatory as white-collar crooks, this duplex watering hole is where they'd hang. A popular after-work destination for Midtowners, Gaf feels part frat funhouse, part dusky neighborhood dive. Framed collages of happy regulars smile down on other happy regulars playing darts and video trivia. A jukebox deals out classic rock anthems as reliably as a tape-making college roommate. Romantic networking is the business at hand, but as the night wears on, only locals linger. One more round, one more game of darts and it's home to check the e-mail and put together the materials for tomorrow's presentation.

Great Friends & Fun

The Gaf is the only bar I've come across in NYC where the service and the clientele are equally superb. I've been a "Gaffer" for years now and the bartenders are the best at what they do as well as being great friends. They serve a wonderful pint of Guinness and are some of the best darts players this side of the pond. For an honestly friendly, down-to-earth good time...the Gaf is the place to be.

Casual After Work Hangout, Great Music

We visited Gaf one Thursday after work and had a great time. I'm not a darts player, but there was a group of people having a rockin' good time in the corner. The one thing I didn't like was the dearth of tables. It made it hard to have conversation with the group. But after a few drafts we moved downstairs to the basement where there are a couple of tables. It was dark, empty and smelled of fresh paint, and we were able to sit together and have a conversation. And the music on the jukebox? A perfect soundtrack with songs that everyone knows the words to.
