Since evicted tenant 13 Little Devils couldn’t hack it in this somewhat remote patch of BelDel, owners Darin Rubell, Joshua Boyd, and Derrek Vernon decided what the new place needed to succeed was a distinct identity: So the top floor, with its much larger, handsome bar and brown banquettes of cracked leather, now doubles as a gallery. (Suddenly, an art opening with a folding table laden with cheese and wine in plastic cups seems like an embarrassment.) Don’t care for the paintings or prints on the two floating walls at center? Make your own risqué portrait in the old-time photo booth near the rear D.J. booth. Downstairs is a tiny, low-ceilinged second bar where candles in Moroccan holders flicker against distressed mirrors. It’s no Studio 54 (like Rubell’s cousin Steve used to run), but the weathered wooden tables are a comfy place to perch.
