Milford Plaza

This venue is closed.
Located under the Milford Plaza Hotel on a thickly trafficked block right off Broadway, this roomy, family-run Irish pub caters heavily to visiting tourists and the pre-theater crowd. Framed Playbills line the red walls, eulogizing Broadway hits gone by. Native New Yorkers patronizing the bar are a rare breed; if you need to identify your fellow locals, just look for the brave few toting neither Niketown shopping bags or rolling suitcases. Besides the usual pub grub, Garvey's offers gussied-up gourmet pizzas, including one with balsamic-roasted chicken, artichokes, and goat cheese. Oddly, the kitchen closes at 8pm. After that (as most of the clientele rushes off to catch a curtain), the pub's charms revert to a pool table, two arcade games, and 18 beers on tap.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
