Half pub (in the front), half tiny dance club in the back, Gatsby's is a bit of counter-programming in Nolita. It does attempt to emulate chic with ornate sconces and velvet-covered booths (meant to evoke a 1920's feel), but it only achieves in attracting a mundane crowd of guys in button-down shirts and dress slacks and girls in tight black pants and tube tops. If you’re ever feeling nostalgic for your college, Greek-scene brothers and sisters, you'll probably find all-too-vivid clones here. A DJ spins mostly ‘70s and ‘80s rock and disco hits (the Jackson 5 get heavy rotation) while everyone tries to get drunk or laid—or, preferably both. For a more quiet (or private) moment, an alcove all the way at the back houses a cozy banquette where you can take advantage of a well-priced $8 mixed drink.

Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
