This Upper East Side wine bar started off more than a decade ago as a neighborhood pizzeria. Tastefully upscale without being pretentious, Giorgio’s has a simple white ceiling illuminated by bronze chandeliers, and its exposed brick walls are red-lit as though with wine-stains. Tables are available both inside and on the sidewalk. The wine selection is truly fantastic, with options ranging from a simple glass of good Merlot for $7, to a full bottle of Nebbiolo d’Alba for considerably more. And while wine (as well as the odd glass of port or prosecco) is its main gig these days, its electric-fired brick oven still burns bright, dishing out worthy slices and pies.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
