Lounge lizards may curse the never-ending mid-century modern mania (how many oh-so-elegant minimalist boites does one city need?). But Glass suggests that the possibilities of streamlined style and space-age design have not been exhausted just yet. Glass is a curved plastic pod—a little bit Sleeper, a little bit 2001—with one end of the bar opening onto a small courtyard with bamboo trees illuminated by neon lights. The establishment opened in June 2001, and it’s still finding its crowd: Wallpaper* subscribers, Chelsea boys, and girls in transit to the W. 27th St. clubs all rub shoulders and vie for space on ultra leather banquettes running the length of the room.
ExtraSmokers can seek haven in their newly enlarged outdoor patio.
