With its beautiful solid oak and copper bars, tasteful lighting and leather chairs and banquettes, Gotham Comedy Club looks more like a lounge than a laugh factory. And that’s sort of the idea. Founded by two comedians who were eager to add elegance to the herd-em-in, get-em-out, two-drink-minimum mentality of traditional comedy clubs, Gotham succeeds in fitting in with its fine, Flatiron District neighbors. Although the digs may be fancier, Gotham is first and foremost a comedy club and making people laugh (as well as drink—there’s still a minimum) remains its top priority. After spending time in the well-appointed vintage lounge, head upstairs to the main performance room, where regulars like the slyly funny Jim Gaffigan, the quietly cutting Todd Barry and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn regular Greg Giraldo keep the room packed.
NoteThere is a two-drink minimum for all shows.
