Cluttered with mismatched couches, Grand Central is reminiscent of the classic Lower East Side hipster hangout Welcome to the Johnsons, but without the hipsters hanging out. The object here is more to watch the game and drink cheap domestic beer, with the occasional smoke break out back. A pool table offers additional excuses to rise from the comfortable (if decrepit) seating. Lest they encounter the type of tattooed, older, larger gentleman who calls his female counterpart his "old lady," women young and old seem to avoid this testosterone-laden environment. The few who do venture in may well be rewarded with detailed assessments of their physical attributes and offers of company in the bathroom. — Emily Gould
