Someone must've whispered "If you build it, they will come," because the owners of Grand Press had the audacity to install a plain-Jane pub (the sort that's indigenous to Murray Hill) in the middle of the Williamsburg drinking scene. Actually, a little to the left of it, down Grand Street near the BQE. The smattering of folks who do come through the old-timey double doors into the former print shop (handsomely made over in weathered brick, dark wood, and Art Deco lamps) are older than the average PBR brat and have bellies that betray a lifetime of drinking. British and Brooklyn accents mix at the underlit bar. There are a couple of church pew booths, but the prime seats are in the enclosed banquettes, raised to offer the groups that occupy them a bird's eye view of the action at the pool and fusbol tables. If you don't like the Zep playing on the jukebox, you can pick up your pint and take your business to the small back patio.
