Two nights a week, the balcony of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Great Hall is converted into an impromptu spot to sip cocktails and listen to a contemporary classical quartet. While the vaulted ceilings and antique Japanese china displayed on the walls make it clear you’re in a museum space, the intimate quiet and lack of foot traffic is almost transportive. The rotating food menu of upscale bar bites changes often, but could include anything from delectable truffle popcorn to fontina and smoked mozzarella grilled cheese to a grilled salmon roll with avocado and citrus mayo.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
