Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue,
New York, NY 10028
|
Two nights a week, the balcony of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Great Hall is converted into an impromptu spot to sip cocktails and listen to a classical quartet. While the vaulted ceilings and antique Japanese china displayed on the walls make it clear you’re in a museum space, the intimate quiet and lack of foot traffic is almost transportive. The rotating food menu of upscale bar bites changes nightly, but has included everything from delectable truffle popcorn to sugar and spiced brie cheese to shrimp skewers accompanied by fingerling potatoes and saffron aioli. (Larger plates, such as the lobster crostini and beef carpaccio, are discounted when you order wine).
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
