It’s a dog’s life at Growler, a pooch-themed pub managed by the same group behind The Swift, Lissie’s, and Harry’s. Sure, the bar features the eponymous growlers for convenient take-home boozing, but there’s much more to this neighborhood joint than enormous jugs of beer. In addition to the bar’s focus on American craft beers, Growler offers sandwiches, charcuterie, sarsaparilla-like root beer, and bone marrow. The craft beers represent some of America’s very best sobriety-relaxants, including Allagash, Six Point, Captain Lawrence, Smuttynose, as well as an excellent amount of harder stuff and cocktails named after dog breeds. The cozy, simple, wood-lined pub is filled with neighborhood locals and financiers just out of work, and there’s a smaller bar called the Underdog open daily.
