"A classy establishment for classy people," is how the management bills Halo, and that designation apparently includes Jennifer Lopez, P. Diddy and a substantial roster of other celebrities who continue to patronize Halo more than a year after its opening. That's why there's a bouncer out front every night and why the bar can price cocktails starting at $9 (the requisite sour apple martini runs $11). Subterranean Halo boasts a good sound system, plentiful velvet couches and cozy, partially hidden nooks everywhere you turn. The occasional glimpse of exposed-brick wall adds to the underground-cavern appeal. Just keep it down as you exit: Halo is trying mightily to maintain a decent relationship with the neighbors. —Matt Dobkin
