Tonic co-owner Stephan Daly has planted his flag north of 110th Street with this massive former auto-body shop. He’s gone hefty on the square footage and played it safe with the décor, so there may be those who snicker that the awning could just as easily read UNO’s. Naysayers notwithstanding, with its brew-pub vibe, massive umbrella-shaded patio, and a full menu, crowds are pretty much guaranteed. The clientele is as diverse as a line at the DMV—graying dreadlocks, moms with strollers, elderly couples, yuppies, Columbia grad students. The only common denominator seems to be that shared desire in the heart of every New Yorker: having a place in the ‘nabe to drink outdoors during summertime. The cocktail list is also predictably diverse, from the Harlem Sunset (Tequila, pineapple, cherry liquor) to Mojitos, and wines by the bottle are a plus for groups lounging on the patio. With a full kitchen on hand that serves up lamb burgers and planked salmon, it’s likely to be many a local’s one-stop shop.
