Profile

Like many trendy Manhattan theme dives, Hogs & Heifers leads a double life. Weekdays find this Meatpacking District institution serving shots and long-necks to actual meat-packers, and weeknights attract a genial, guy-heavy regular crowd of transplanted and would-be urban rednecks. On weekends, however, Hogs & Heifers is packed with a riot of whooping tourists and singles hoping to glimpse a drunken famous person's bra. The joint's desperate Saturday night pitch makes you grateful for the unobtrusive but swift bouncers who protect and serve without apology (or negotiations).

Great music and fun, playful bartenders

I've read the other reviews and so I am getting a sense of the sort of people that frequent nymag.com. I wear a motorcycle jacket with an american flag on the back. I have spurs on my cowboy boots. I tip well, tip often, and always greet the girls at the bar with a smile. I have my whiskey and beer bought for me and set down on the bar when I walk in, usually accompanied by a hug. Treat people nicely and play along, and you'll love this bar as much as I do. If you've got an ego, stick with your fufu drinks at the Martini de la Hoite Toite.

Hogs and Heifers Bartenders are Rude!

The group of bikers who used to call heifers home obviously agree. There wasn't anyone who remotely wore any leather. Mostly designer shirts and high heels. The meat packing district has been in transition for a while now with new restaurants and the highline. Hogs and Heifers will not survive the recession if it doesn't shape up. It doesn't help that the bartenders keep up drink for drink with the patrons. Judging by the comments of my fellow bloggers there are a lot of people who have had a similar disappointing experience.
