Home strides into the Chelsea nightlife scene like the new kid who steals the most popular girl's boyfriend on the first day of school. Staking claim across the street from Bungalow 8, this space has drawn crops of celebs both aged (Sting) and ripe (Lindsay). The second-floor room is more of a treehouse for jet-setters than a cozy abode: Think St. Moritz by way of West Hollywood. Chandeliers hanging from the tufted leather ceiling hover above the bevy of partiers who hoof across the red-dyed wood floors. On the black Chesterfield-style couches and daybeds lining the exposed-stone walls, guys with too much money buy bottles for women with too little clothing while marquee DJs such as Stretch Armstrong spin a mix of hip-hop, rock and Top 40. Although the bar looks small, the sexy bartenders sling top-shelf drinks with veteran quickness. Very Important People don't like to be kept waiting.
ExtraHouse is not welcome at Home, but the music is the soundtrack of Guest House next door, a club with a separate entrance for exclusive parties that can also open onto Home. Although the layout is similar, Guesthouse counters Home's red-light sexiness with brown leather couches, cream wallpaper, amber lighting, and a recessed candle display.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
