The lowdown

Hudson’s patrons aren’t exactly flipping pages. The cigar bar’s bookshelves (stocked with everything from Herzog to Madonna’s Sex) are part of an haute library mise-en-scène that includes lots of Scottish plaid, aged liquors behind glass, a shiny copper bar-top, a cigar menu, expensive wines, and a ruddy bartender in a tie. Thankfully, this set is just a set, and one that’s not populated solely by 60-year-old Johnnie Walker types. The mixed-age, mostly local crowd has been known to include Larry Mullen, Jr. and Michael Stipe (the late James Gandolfini favored its Scotch). Be ready to splurge on expertly poured cocktails, like the Lillet-laden Vesper martini (yes, the James Bond one).
