Profile

Ascend an escalator bathed in lime-green fluorescence; weave your way through a sea of overstuffed leather club chairs; glide onto a glowing glass floor; settle into a rococo sofa; gaze at the luminous primary-colored ceiling mural painted by Francesco Clemente. By the time you're served by the dressed-to-thrill waitstaff, you'll feel as if you've stepped into a glossy Versace ad. The Hudson is the quintessential post-millennial hotspot, complete with the requisite Philippe Starck décor, Page Six celebrity endorsements and assorted hangers-on milling about—all of whom are playing the same harmless fantasy of the Beautiful Person who's had sex in the city.

Extra

With its elaborate rooftop garden—ersatz jungle vegetation and funky seats (if you can get one)—the Hudson's patio may be the swankest place in the city for outdoor imbibing.

Liked this bar. It was relaxed enough and the crowd was mixed. The music was so-so and the drinks were a bit steep, but hey, this is New York, what do you expect?

The "bouncer" at the front bar area of the hotel (not to be confused with Library at the back area) was so rude to my friend who happened to be wearing flip flops, and wouldn't let her into the bar. Now, I can understand certain establishments having a dress code, but this is the Hudson Hotel, not 1 Oak, not Tenjune, and certainly not fancy by any means. Further, she wasn't dressed sloppy or unprofessional. And what really made me upset was that there were several other girls in the bar area wearing flip flops. If you're going to enforce a ridiculous dress code, at least do it uniformly. Its too bad that the service was so awful, b/c I liked the decor and the drinks were good.
