Ini Ani’s 350-sq ft. interior, designed by Lower East Side firm LTL is so idiosyncratically elegant that it has appeared in a few architecture rags. Each detail in the streamlined, boxy space communicates warmth and wit: from the stainless-steel bar to the Giacometti-esque light fixtures. Three walls are paneled in earthy corrugated cardboard, and plaster casts of coffee-cup lids line the fourth. It's a packed espresso joint and wi-fi hotspot by day; as the dusk encroaches, the freelance designers and writers shut down their iBooks, order a glass of Montepulciano from the still growing wine list, and mingle in their hardwood chairs with fedora-clad local musicians, European tourists and a model or two. The co-owner, Kevin Mancini, and his staff are chummy with every other patron and their dogs. The Mediterranean-inspired snacks are excellent, particularly the platter of prosciutto, mozzarella, olives and figs. In a neighborhood that sometimes feels like one long pub-and-club crawl, an early stop at Ini Ani sets a more relaxed tone.
