In a neighborhood once untouched by craft beer and brunch, Inwood Local has brought both — plus an impressive wine list — north of Harlem. Diners and drinkers plop down at long industrial tables, perched high-top seating, and a spacious outdoor patio. A chalkboard relays what's on the 16 rotating taps and whichever rare bottles and cans owner Gus Anton has stocked the bar with that day. Hard-to-find brews like Tiger Eyes Hazelnut brown ale from Bridge and Tunnel Brewery or Shit Jeans, a 9.1 percent ABV beer from Against the Grain, revolve through the ranks, and chances are you might only see your new favorite beer here once in a while. But everything the beer garden carries pairs nicely with snacks from the kitchen; Cajun crusted catfish sticks, mole poblano chicken filet, and bacon-wrapped Diver scallops are best washed down with one of Anton's latest finds. Though its location can be a trek for much of the city, Inwood Local lures a laid-back crowd looking for a good time without much fuss. Neighborhood regulars sip glasses of wine over books, while big groups enjoy the backyard shaded by umbrellas.
