Franklin Street’s meager nightlife strip isn’t exactly Cahirciveen—an Irish coastal town that boasts over 50 pubs on a two-mile stretch—but you’ll find a hint of that town’s serious commitment to drinking at this pub adorned with mournful photographs of the owners’ native southwest Kerry County. No plastic shamrocks or garish neon here. Plus, the music is never loud enough to compete with conversation. Instead, this watering hole takes a page from neighboring Pencil Factory via a stripped-down décor of dark stained wood and sepia lighting. During nice weather, it’s hard to decide between parking at a table near the nineteenth-century storefront windows for a pint of Old Speckled Hen or claiming a chair in the spacious garden for a glass of satisfying sangria. During the winter, a functional fireplace makes your choice an easier one.
