Japas 27 is as busy, loud, and hyperkinetic as any karaoke bar should be. The walls are painted a retina-burning pink, glam chandeliers dangle from the ceiling, and there's not an inch of the whole place that remains in any way understated. There’s a boatload of specials and deals for food, drink, and song whizzing around: A half-price happy hour at the bar, a two-hour all-you-can-drink special for $31 (or all-you-can-eat-and-drink for $35) in one of the private rooms, and sushi, gyoza, and teriyaki from the place downstairs, East Japanese Restaurant, until ten. There are seven medium-size rooms for the amateurs and three party rooms large enough to accommodate any diva-size entourage. The particularly brave may sing out at the bar.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
