Profile
Once upon a time, John Street enjoyed its fifteen minutes of fame as the new Lit. That’s when the weekly dance parties brought Williamsburgers (briefly) to Wall Street. Maybe it was the bar’s rec room vibe that made it so fun. With wood-paneled walls, a make-out nook in the far corner, and plenty of games to play, the deep-below-street-level space is what the basement of “That 70s Show” would look like if you put a spacious, black-and-white tile floor in the middle of it and added some booths and tables. These days, the bar has been returned to the toilers of the Financial District, who take advantage of the daily happy hours to blow off steam, watch sports, and maybe grab some greasy grub after a day of working for the Man. You’re not likely to find many Harleyheads at the Golden Tee game or the dart boards, and the whiskey list goes well beyond Jack and Jim.
