Don't want to endure the 5-hour bus ride to Boston's yuppy drinking scene? This Beantown chain’s Theater District outpost (there's also one in Murray Hill) offers a quicker way to faux gentility. A sidewalk barker on tourist-heavy Restaurant Row lures in families and star-crossed couples with dinner specials such as the 1-1/4 lb. lobster, while the three giant plasma-screen TVs situated in the underlit 30-foot-tall mahogany backbar lures in the after-office crowds. At the long bar, men wash down beer (20 brands on tap), nodding their heads to the unobtrusive 80s power pop, while at two-top high tables nearby, Petite Sophisticate-wearing paralegals dissect their day at the office over shooters and cocktails with names that range from flirty to filthy. (The modest wine list is a study in Merlot and Chardonnay.) Upstairs, a narrow mezzanine offers more two-tops and the best seat in the house: The balcony table, with its plant potters and view of the strip, would make the bar feel like New Orleans if the tin ceilings weren't fake and the dark wood wasn't so lacquered.
