Deep beneath the streets of NYU's Washington Square campus, Josie Wood's Pub is a cozy home for a mostly-undergrad crowd. The low-ceilinged, ramshackle space sticks with a frat-house rec room aesthetic: beer company giveaways, two pool tables, a dart board and a few haphazard stacks of books. The underside of the entry staircase protrudes into the space, resulting in more bashed Greek heads than the Trojan army. There's a full bar-food menu at collegiate-budget-friendly prices, along with a spate of drink specials. Though the crowd is young, a visiting professor wouldn't feel out of place at the long blond bar. Strategically-positioned televisions show all major sporting events such as the NFL Sunday Ticket. Until the NYU Violets get a football team of their own, it'll have to do.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
