Like many of its K Town brethren, J’z is tucked inside an anonymous would-be office building (“Please use elevator. Or walk up for exercise!” declares the sign out in front of the fourth-floor space.) Inside, you’ll find an incongruously elegant karaoke bar, well suited to self-conscious singers, who can perform right from their seats at the bar, politely ignored by the quiet regulars. The songs ($2 each) are listed in a phone-book-size volume and include most American karaoke favorites, as well as Korean pop songs. Curious outsiders will be fascinated by the looping montage of generic stock footage that accompanies the lyrics on the screen; everyone else will appreciate the civil atmosphere and piquant mojitos. J’z also features live jazz on Friday and Saturday evenings.
