Didn’t think Midtown was sexy? Upstairs from Indian restaurant Bombay Palace, K Lounge proves that even the West 50s can have an erotic side. A tribute to the ancient art of the Kama Sutra, K has a dimly lit, red velvet bar area and an Indian-themed décor of golden elephants, ornate wall carvings, and painted vistas. Small TV screens flash images from old Bollywood films, and there’s a back room strewn with red pillows for those who’d like a more comfortable, er, position. The specialty drinks are colorful and fruity creations and appetizers carry racy names like Tantric Tikka and K Kebabs. On weekends, K Lounge gets packed with a young, hip mostly South Asian crowd, and all seem seduced by the sultry atmosphere.
