Candlelit, conversation-friendly Kavehaz (which means "coffeehouse" in Hungarian) lures passersby with nightly live jazz shows. While there's no cover, there is a $10 food and drink minimum—not a hard quota to make, given the full restaurant menu and extensive drinks list. And while you can order just about everything (beer, wine, hot apple cider) coffee is the star here, from tricked-out oversized cappuccinos to a Jamaican Blue Mountain Estate brew which the menu bills as "the world's finest and most expensive" (and at $6 for a two-cup pot, at least half of that claim is probably true). On stage, the lineup focuses on progressive local musicians playing mostly original work (bigger-name world music acts are booked next door at its sister club, Satalla). Standout performers have included soprano saxophonist Sam Newsome and guitarist Dom Minasi. Local singers are showcased on Monday and Tuesday, while Sunday winds down with a blues jam.

Live Music: Mon-Tue, 7pm-11pm; Wed-Sat, 6pm-12:30am
