At Kazuza, low semicircles of padded benches partition the space, with a jungle of red and orange swathes of fabric hanging above, and groups are left to their hookahs and massive platters of Middle Eastern fare. The menu offers 50 flavors for your water pipe, and the staff is happy to rattle off ingredients and house favorites, like Blue Mist and the super-secret Kazuza Mix. They’ll also step in and change coals for free, a task that many hookah bars charge for. Drinks are heavily martini-focused and even more heavily sugared. The Kazuza Kiss martini is especially lip-puckering, a fruity blend of Malibu rum, pineapple, and mango. Appetizer platters—with baked pitas, stuffed grape leaves, tabouli, hummus, falafel, and baba ghannouj—are popular with the late-night crowd, while entrées hover around kebabs and desserts (made in-house) peak at the gooey baklava. If you want added entertainment, drop by on a weekend: Belly dancers shake it to a live D.J. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, and most nights bring to mind an Israeli Jersey Shore.
