Karaoke is king at this Second Avenue bar located in an otherwise desolate midtown neighborhood near the United Nations. Opened in 1981, Keats has progressed from an Irish pub and luncheonette to an all-American bar (plus the viewing room of choice for Indianapolis Colts fans). The UN crowd—“diplomats, ambassadors, and peacekeepers,” according to Keats owner Alex Nicholas—still frequents the place during the lunch hour and after work. Then there are those drawn in by the generous drink specials (like free Bud Light drafts with your burger before 7 p.m.!). A full food menu is available, including a “healthy options” section. But again, the focus is on the karaoke—you can’t miss the crooners, singing from a small wooden stage near the front door, or the guest hosts that come through several times a week.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
