Know the feeling you get when you check out an apartment that’s not nearly as big as its pictures on Craigslist suggest? Patrons are likely to feel that same slight disappointment when visiting Keybar's website before hitting the actual space itself. The studio-sized layout is so small it's hard to imagine more than three parties mingling at once, making the elevated V.I.P. section behind the D.J. booth more like a well-renovated walk-in closet than an actual addition. But what Keybar lacks in square footage it aims to make up for in creative concoctions on the drink menu. (Specialty martinis include the Bloody Orange Zygo and the Huckleberry Sin as well as sugary shots like the Rolo.) Classic dance tunes get the West-of-the-Hudson crowd on to the floor/foyer faster than you can say "Like a Prayer." The dark interior, red neon lighting—from under the bar and behind the artwork—and exposed brick walls can make you feel as though you're in an old-school pizza oven. But on those cold nights when the working fireplace is ablaze, don't even think about cozying up to the hearth or you'll block the entrance to the bathroom.
