Leave the dives in the neighborhood to the NYUers: mellow King’s Head Tavern is aimed, mercifully, at adults in search of a low-key hideaway. Gothic-style light fixtures and wall-mounted candles cast a warm glow over a laidback crowd of loosened-tied young professionals and singles mingling long beyond after-work hours. There’s plenty of room for canoodling on sprawling velvet couches. The antique wood throne at the back is clearly the stateliest seat in the house if you're so inclined. Twenty beers on tap include a few gems like Brooklyn Lager and Blanche de Bruxelles, while Scotch aficionados can choose from about seven single malts. The internet-based jukebox plays whatever you choose to download.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
