Korova Milk Bar does not simply mimic the futuristic drug den in A Clockwork Orange; it manages even to outdo Stanley Kubrick's warped vision—creeping out a sector of the East Village's lounge-crawlers in the process. The film may have inspired the bar's black-and-white mannequin motif, but Korova's uniquely distorted plaster bodies, jutting out from the walls and through glass tables (not to mention the video screens, some mounted on decapitated mannequins, flashing bizarre horror and cult films) are eccentricities seldom seen even on celluloid. The lounge is dim to say the least: Malcolm McDowell look-alikes are indistinguishable alongside the Goth-mod hipsters sprawled out on wavy couches. Martinis, served in fishbowl-shaped glasses, are a perennial favorite, though most fiendish "droogs" come to Korova for Moloko, potent milk-based cocktails satirically named after dead celebrities. House and guest DJs regularly spin everything from underground hip-hop to '80s New Wave several nights a week, while picks from the decade-spanning jukebox provide entertainment the rest of the time. And whether it's Depeche Mode, Wu-Tang, or Beethoven's Ninth Symphony blaring overhead, just be thankful the music overwhelms the soundtracks to the horror films on view.
