One of the Lower East Side's most downmarket drags—Chrystie Street—hustled towards respectability with the opening of Kush Lounge in summer 2005. This Moroccan-themed hookah hot spot was originally located on Orchard Street before much of the block was demolished to make room for a new hotel. No worries—Kush's new digs are more spacious and luxurious, with extra emphasis on lounge. Wooden detailing and opulent ottomans abound under sultry lighting. DJs spin a global mix of house and pop for a sophisticated, late-night clientele. Though there's never a cover charge during the week, the Kush experience can be pricey: there's a $10 cover after 10 p.m. on Saturdays, a hookah will set you back $30 and some drinks cost double digits. It's worth it, though: The Kush Martini made with pomegranate molasses already has legions of fans.
