A cross between a highball lounge and a cozy café, La Negrita caters to those who enjoy a nice strong drink while they read. Columbia students flock behind the bar’s dark-tinted windows to take advantage of free wireless internet and happy-hour prices, cheap enough to feel like financial aid. Coffee, sandwiches, and pastries are served daily. The space inside is geared more toward study and conversation, with fully half the floor space populated by eclectic coffee tables and not a jukebox in sight. That being said, there’s an elegant bar counter in the front, as well as individual bar tables—after having studied for final exams half the night, you can, under the same roof, toast to their end. — John Wheeler-Rappe
