It's remarkable how little effort apparently went into Laila, which proffers reasonably-priced mixed drinks like vodka and sodas or gin and tonics at $5 each, but not much else. The raw, loft-like, narrowly rectangular space has a plain concrete floor and extremely unappealing cinder-block walls, which a thin coat of paint barely improves. The local art hanging here and there isn’t any more inspired, nor are the standard-issue metal bar tables and stools, which look like giveaways from one of those restaurant supply companies on the Bowery. (The vintage-y sofas and chairs in the front of the bar probably are giveaways.) Still, there's a pool table, perfect for a laid-back game, and a patio out back, which wouldn't be half-bad for a balmy summer night. There's also an open-mic night on Wednesdays that turns out some decent Williamsburg wannabes.
