Everything about Lavo is too much. The music is too loud, the dancing is too intense, and the drinks are too expensive. Waitresses in small tight black dresses don’t just bring out bottles of champagne, they march out triumphantly, in a line, holding the oversized bottles over their heads. Others holds sparklers, and if those sparklers happen to set off a fire alarm or two, it’s really not a big deal, as few are likely to notice over the pounding bass of the music. It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you’re looking for a place to dance and have a good time in Midtown, Lavo does the job. — Bryan Hood
