A decidedly un-ironic bar in the backwaters of East Williamsburg. The deep-red front room offers ample table seating, with chandeliers hanging over the mirror-backed bar and twenty-odd bottled beers (five on draft) for the choosing. But with vinyl banquettes, taciturn men lurking at the bar, and a back lounge that has all the appeal of a junior-high cafeteria, the Lazy Catfish goes down much easier after a few of their notable drink specials. On Tuesday nights, cans of PBR are free (between 8:30 and 10pm), with stiff $2 well drinks from 8:30 to 11pm. The southern-inspired bar food (fried red tomatoes, catfish poppers) is a logical counterpart, greasy but serviceable. And while the linoleum lounge may be an eyesore, the Catfish boasts the Big Buck Hunter, movie projector, and pool table to ably complete the rec-room aesthetic.
