Profile

A decidedly un-ironic bar in the backwaters of East Williamsburg. The deep-red front room offers ample table seating, with chandeliers hanging over the mirror-backed bar and twenty-odd bottled beers (five on draft) for the choosing. But with vinyl banquettes, taciturn men lurking at the bar, and a back lounge that has all the appeal of a junior-high cafeteria, the Lazy Catfish goes down much easier after a few of their notable drink specials. On Tuesday nights, cans of PBR are free (between 8:30 and 10 p.m.), with stiff $2 well drinks from 8:30 to 11. The southern-inspired bar food (fried red tomatoes, catfish poppers) is a logical counterpart, greasy but serviceable. And while the linoleum lounge may be an eyesore, the Catfish boasts the Pac-Man, movie projector, and pool table to ably complete the rec-room aesthetic.
