Kieter Chan’s Le Lupanar—which gets its name from the French slang for brothel—was converted from a restaurant to a bar in the spring of 2009. Out went the French menu and the lunchtime hours, and in came the Jägermeister machine. Fortunately, they kept the black glass chandeliers, which now preside over the dancing area, strewn with white leather couches and a wooden D.J. booth. There’s a short list of bar food, including burgers, a chicken sandwich, and spring rolls, but many bring in their own slice, or fried chicken from nearby Popeye’s. Drinking options range from high-end vodkas and tequilas, showcased in a backlit shelf behind the wooden bar, to pitchers of Budweiser, which groups can go in on for beer pong in the private party space downstairs.
