Though it's a relative newcomer to the neighborhood, the maritime-themed Lighthouse feels like a brushed-up reproduction of your dad's favorite bar. Conceived on a generous tavern model, it's got well-chosen taps with lots of good microbrews, a long and magnanimous happy hour and highly edible pub grub whenever you want it. The season's game is always on the TV, and board games like Connect Four are always on the coffee table. There's a pool table, a dart board, and a back patio with picnic tables for the smokers. Even the crowd is all-purpose: the place is rarely packed, but never empty, and you're as likely to meet world-weary salarymen and toddler-toting moms (Tuesday has Baby Happy Hour) as you are to encounter boisterous postmodern youngsters. Sure, the music can be cheesy, but what the place lacks in cool it makes up for in good vibes. Just like your old man, Lighthouse is solid as a rock and always there when you need it.
