Profile

Scenesters decamp from Williamsburg to invade this perenially packed and very art-damaged East Village rock & roll scenefest, starring the new wave of stylists, photographers, budding rock stars, performance artists, DJs and hangers-on centered around filthster shutterbug Ryan McGinley, actor Leo Fitzpatrick and the highly influential street style magazine Vice, the bible of the skankoisie. Lit is their clubhouse and don’t you forget it. Celebrity DJs spin in the cramped basement while scruffy Strokes lookalikes swap gravy with low-banged vagrant-chic girls dolled up in the jolie-laide look of heroine Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It’s all very Larry Clark, plus there’s an in-house art gallery.

Too Cool for the Living

Lowbrow from Williamsburg | Posted on 7/2/03

Overall Reader Rating: 2 (Not Recommended)

What passes for "the high life" at Lit is a pale, pose-y imitation of 30-years-past Punk disaffection - the original purveyors of which are mostly dead! Glamour never felt so forced.
