A taqueria and tequileria from the crew responsible for Spitzer’s Corner, just down the block, Loz Feliz is a multilevel lounge with notable food: A minimalist menu of tacos, quesadillas, and ceviches prepared by Chef Julieta Ballesteros of Crema are all available in the first-floor dining room. The food is served in disposable cardboard dishes the likes of which you would find at a Mexican picnic and comes with two types of salsa in plastic squeeze bottles. Ballesteros says she’s going for a lighter and tastier gastronomic experience than traditional Mexican cuisine, and the result is like delicious street-vender food without all the oil. Downstairs, a catacomb with picnic tables, graffitied walls, and a cobblestone floor allows more space for dining. And one floor below that, down another set of stairs, is a lounge perfect for fiestas, with couches, salmon-colored walls, and gold-framed mirrors. There are 150 premium tequilas available for sipping, as well as a variety of cocktails; the hibiscus and jalapeno margaritas, in particular, are not to be missed.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
