At the tender age of 21, Bronx-born Zachary Sharaga turned this Avenue C dive into a destination spot by trolling Craigslist for primo jazz acts which he now presents without the usual attendant cover. Drinks are equally economical: The entire beer selection (Bitburger included) is frequently half-price; rotating regional wines are often discounted; well drinks—made exclusively from premium liquor and single-malt scotch—bear a similarly reasonable price tag. Brick walls, a tiled bar and the house pit bull Hamsa add a folksy charm to the trios, duos, and soloists trumpeting mostly straight-up, traditional jazz. — Shira Levine

My room mates and I love this place. Zach is not only super knowledgeable about everything he serves; he's also a great guy and extremely friendly, setting the tone for a fantastic, laid-back bar. The cocktails are made with the best ingredients, and unlike some other trendy joints in the area, he doesn't skimp on quantity. It's the perfect place to hang out and listen to some jazz with friends. Definitely swing by if you are in the neighborhood--especially if you have a date.
