Not exactly the easiest drinking-den to find (there isn’t a sign outside and you’ve got to wait till 9 pm for it open), Lovers of Today is nevertheless worth the effort if you’re willing to search. Inside the small basement space, you’ll find ramshackle luxury augmented with flowers and candles, white plaster walls festooned with well-placed mirrors, and half-moon leather banquettes that are perfect for practicing your indie-rock slouch. Formerly an obscure tikki bar, the place now seeks to attract an East Village aficionado crowd, sporting cocktails with bohemian-friendly names like Satellite of Love and Waterloo Sunset. All liqueurs are house-made and truly excellent.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
