Located in the cellar of Rice (the DUMBO restaurant with two sister locations in Manhattan), this sultry speakeasy of a bar draws in Downtown Brooklyn's artsier element and after-dinner tipplers who are looking for a seriously sexy ambience. While the décor is minimal, a red glow against brick walls casts an illicit aura, and since this neighborhood has yet to find its nightlife groove, you'll probably have your choice of the cozy banquettes. The namesake grain of the parent restaurant is incorporated in saketinis, sakejitos, and sakeritas, but classic cocktails sans rice (like sidecars and gimlets) are shaken with just as much precision by the bartenders at the bamboo bar. The sake is served up in the Japanese style (cold). This subterranean boudoir is downright warm.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
